Machine Relations
Public relations aimed at machines: earning citations, recommendations and favourable understanding from AI systems the way PR earns coverage from journalists. Attributed to Jaxon Parrott, claimed from 2024 with public evidence from 2026.
What it actually means
The analogy is the argument. Public relations works by influencing what independent parties say about you, on the understanding that their word carries weight yours does not. Machine relations applies that to systems that read those parties.
It reframes the work as relationship-building with an intermediary rather than content production, which is a genuinely different emphasis from most AI-search advice.
Where the analogy strains
Journalists can be talked to. They have interests, memories and inboxes. A retrieval system has none of those, and cannot be persuaded, only fed.
The attribution here is recorded at medium confidence: the coinage is claimed from 2024 but the public evidence is 2026, and this site records the gap rather than smoothing it over.
