Visibility Layer
The layer of an AI-search operating model concerned with whether and where a brand appears across answer and search surfaces. Attributed to Kevin Indig, 2026.
What it actually means
In an operating model that separates concerns, the visibility layer owns one question: where does the brand show up. Not whether it converts, not whether the site is technically sound, just presence across surfaces.
Separating it prevents the most common muddle in this field, which is a single team held accountable for presence, trust and revenue at once, with no way to say which one failed.
How it relates to the trust stack
Indig's two frameworks fit together. The trust stack describes the evidence that earns you standing; the visibility layer describes where that standing shows up.
Trust without visibility is a well-regarded brand nobody encounters. Visibility without trust is appearing in answers and being described badly.
