AI Optimization / AIO
AIO is used to mean optimising for AI search, and also to mean optimising AI systems themselves, and also as a generic label for anything involving AI. The overload is why this site records it as generic rather than defined.
The overload problem
AIO is used by AI-search practitioners to mean what AEO and GEO mean. It is used by machine-learning engineers to mean optimising a model or an inference pipeline. It is used by software vendors as a marketing label attached to anything with a model behind it.
A term that means three things means none of them reliably. In writing, AIO usually needs a gloss before it can be used at all, which is a fair test of whether a piece of vocabulary is earning its place.
Why it is recorded as generic
There is no dated first use, no explicit coinage and no claimant. The expansion is obvious enough that it was assembled independently many times, which is the signature of generic language rather than a coined term.
That is not a criticism of anyone using it. It is a warning that the phrase carries less shared meaning than its users assume.
