Micro-AEO Ranking
Ranking assessed at the level of a single content unit rather than a page: whether this specific passage gets selected as the answer. Coined by Jason Barnard in 2024.
What it actually means
Page-level visibility hides the thing that matters. A page can be retrieved constantly while only one of its twelve sections is ever used, and the other eleven are doing nothing.
Micro-AEO ranking asks the question at unit level: for this question, is this passage the one selected. It turns a vague site-wide score into a specific, fixable finding.
Why the granularity is the useful part
Diagnosis improves immediately. If one section is being cited and eleven are not, the fix is to rewrite the eleven in the shape of the one, and the successful passage is a working template you already own.
It pairs naturally with Fraggles: if fragments are the retrieval unit, fragments are the right unit of measurement, and measuring pages is measuring the wrong object.
