Citation RSI
A momentum indicator for an entity's citations in AI answers, borrowing the relative strength index from technical trading to show whether visibility is building or fading. Coined by Paul Truscott in 2026.
What it actually measures
Not whether you were cited, but whether the rate is accelerating or decaying. A brand cited ten times this month is in a different position depending on whether last month was three or thirty.
The borrowing from financial technical analysis is deliberate. AI visibility is noisy, varies by phrasing and by day, and a single reading tells you almost nothing; a momentum measure over a window is more honest about what the data can support.
The caution that comes with it
Technical-analysis indicators carry assumptions from markets that do not obviously hold here: continuous pricing, high sample rates, and a mechanism connecting past movement to future movement.
AI citation data has none of those guaranteed. The metric is a useful smoothing device and a poor prediction engine, and it should be read as the former.
