Visibility Drawdown

The peak-to-trough decline in an entity's AI visibility, used to measure how severe a loss was and how long recovery took. Coined by Paul Truscott in 2026.

What it actually measures

Not where visibility is, but how far it fell from its high and how long it stayed down. A brand at seventy per cent of its peak is in a different position depending on whether the peak was last week or last year.

Severity and duration are separate readings and both matter. A deep, brief dip is a model update; a shallow, permanent one is a competitor taking ground.

Why decline deserves its own metric

Visibility reporting is overwhelmingly oriented towards growth, which means losses are noticed late and diagnosed badly.

Drawdown also reframes the recovery conversation usefully. The question stops being are we up this month and becomes have we recovered what we lost, which is harder to answer optimistically.
