Generative Search Optimization (GSO)
Another label for optimising towards generative search results. It has no documented first use or claimant, and overlaps almost entirely with GEO and AEO.
What it means, and why it exists
GSO describes the same activity as generative engine optimisation. It appears to exist because GEO already meant geography to a great many people, and some practitioners wanted an acronym that did not collide.
That is a reasonable motive and it does not create a new discipline. Nothing you would do under GSO differs from what you would do under GEO.
The acronym problem in this field
This A to Z contains AEO, GEO, GSO, AIO, LLMO, SAGEO, AAO and AIEO, several of which name overlapping or identical work. That is a field competing to own vocabulary rather than converging on it.
The way through is to ask three questions of any acronym: who coined it, when, and what does it let you do that the neighbouring term does not. Where the last answer is nothing, the term is branding.
